IR Distance sensors are a low-cost, easy to use analog distance sensor. IR Sensors produce a constantly updated analog output signal depending upon the intensity of the reflected IR, which in turn can be used to calculate approximate range. These sensors are perfect for obstacle avoidance, line following, and even map building!

The Phidget IR Distance Adaptor makes interfacing Sharp IR sensors to a microcontroller easier by regulating the output signal. Generally the Sharp IR Sensors output a 0-3v analog output, which doesn't always match up with analog input requirements for microcontrollers. The Phidget IR Distance Adaptor scales this signal up to the standardized 0-5v analog signal while cleaning up the output for more accurate sensory data.
IR Photoreflectors are generally used in line following or encoder application, at short distances to detect white or black colors. These sensors are easy to use and low in cost, making them the perfect addition to your next autonomous robot project.
