The Grove Moisture Sensor can be used to detect the moisture of soil and/or measure soil humidity. Actually I just made that up, I have no idea if 'soil humidity' is a thing, but this sensor can measure it!
So, practical applications? Well you could use this to determine when your plants are thirsty. Perhaps create an automated plant watering system? Throw in some light sensors and a temperature/humidity module and you've got yourself a pretty high-tech greenhouse.
