Maximum torque recommendation
We recommend maximum torque not exceed 85 ft-lb (Preliminary) for all P80 Series Gearboxes. It is possible for the CIM motor(s) to exceed this in higher gear reductions. Higher reduction gearboxes should be utilized primarily for speed reduction. Designs utilizing higher reductions should include a method of limiting torque to prevent damage to the gearbox.
These gearboxes were designed with the help of the FIRST community specifically to meet the needs of FIRST and other demanding robotic systems. Our thanks to the many FIRST teams and individuals who provided input.
Key features include:
* CNC machined components for tight tolerances
* Massive 0.8 module hardened steel gears with an 11.5mm face
* 5mm thick hardened steel carrier plates
* Assembled with large socket head cap screws (Tie Rods)
This P8 series gearbox is supplied with a standard 3.25in (82.6mm) long shaft.
All mounting hardware to mount one CIM motor to the gearbox is included.
MOTOR NOT INCLUDED
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Mounting a large load to the end of an unsupported shaft may damage the gearmotor!!!
The shafts on these motors are supported by two ball bearings making them fairly rugged; however, we do not recommend them to be used with large overhung loads. We recommend using a design that supports the end of the shaft. If it is not possible to support the end of the shaft, we recommend mounting the load as close to the face of the gearmotor as possible and cutting the shaft to length. Our 2.5 inch bearing block provides a simple and effective way to support the shaft.
