The Phoenix Hexapod is one of the most advanced hexapods on the market today. Utilizing an Inverse Kinematics engine designed by Kåre Halvorsen, numerous walking gaits with omnidirectional translation and body rotation on all axis are available. The Phoenix Hexapod Comprehensive Kit - No Servo Version contains everything needed to build your very own advanced walking platform, complete with wireless PS2-style remote control, with the exception of servos. The minimum recommended servos for this kit are [6x] HS-475HB & [12x] HS-645MG.

The Phoenix Hexapod Comprehensive Kit - No Servo Version comes with the following components:

Walking Gait Demo Remote Control Demo

Body Control Demo Metal Contstruction Demo

The Phoenix Hexapod Robot has a more natural looking, more articulate leg and body design than most hexapods. The three DOF (degree of freedom) leg design means this robot can walk in any direction! Our comprehensive kit includes everything you need to build a fully functioning wirelessly controlled walking robot! The mechanical design was inspired by Kåre Halvorsen who goes by Zenta on our forums. This is quite possibly one of the nicest looking, best performing, commercially available hexapod out there.

The Mechanics
The robot is made from waterjet cut 6061 T6 aluminum components that are jet black anodized. The Tibia and Femur parts are made from 0.125" thick material, and the chassis parts are made from 0.063" thick material. Note, this robot, as cool looking as it is, does not have the payload carrying capability of the other hexapods available from Lynxmotion. There is a penalty for pivoting the joints on the servo output shaft alone.

Controlling the Robot
The Phoenix robot is a complex walker There are pre-written programs available for PS2 control using the SSC-32, Bot Board II, and BASIC Atom Pro (included in this Comprehensive Kit). Programs and instructions are available in the Complete Phoenix Tutorial on Lynxmotion's site. Kåre Halvorsen has written a program to automate the process of creating complex sequences. His work has been outlined here. Jeroen Janssen (Xan on our forum) has submitted some very impressive BASIC Atom Pro code for Phoenix PS2 control, available here.
