TRS Explained Part 7

Optional and 3rd Party Components

Optional and 3rd Party Components: The TRS doesn't stop at the components we've described so far. There are many types of tools and modules which can be added to a robot to enhance it's intelligence and capabilities.

Rendering / Visualization Tools
Vision Recognition Modules
Navigation & Mapping Modules
Physics Engines
Voice Recognition Tools
Speech APIs
and more

The TRS was designed specifically for creating a market where individuals and companies alike can create code, tools, and components that can be given away or sold for others to use. These products and modules can be built up ontop of each other with each new layer advancing further by yoking the technology of the layer beneath it.

The word of the day is Modular. You can see in the example below how each new layer of modular components builds upon the layer below it. Different companies and people can each focus on their area of expertise while benefiting from using the components of others.

The above modular stack shows a simple vertical integration of similar layers, however this concept can be expanded much further to build very intelligent robotic systems. In the diagram below we have created an example security robotic system. The blue layer shows the high level behavioral program developed completely on top of modular components from 3rd party vendors. With the TRS developers are able to "stand on the shoulders of others" and concentrate on building the layer they need without having to build entire vertical solutions in house which is the current practice in many cases.
