Modular Sensors make robot building easy
As you know by now, modular thinking is at the heart of the Trossen Robotics System. This is probably most true when we begin to think about sensors.

For a long time, robotics developers have been wishing for a world where they could just select the sensors they needed and plug them into a universal system. The wait is over! With the advent of low-cost “bridge” technologies (like Phidgets), developers can now buy or build a wide range of plug and play sensors.

The concept is quite simple. All of the sensors conform to a 0-5 volt range of response. This range is translated into an integer range by the API, for use in any programming language. So, it doesn't matter if you are plugging in a motion sensor, force sensor, or IR distance sensor. They all work on the same inputs and are interchangeable.
