ROS Mobile Manipulator

The LoCoBot is a ROS-enabled research rover that enables researchers, educators & students alike to focus on high-level development for mapping, navigation & manipulation instead of building out hardware & lower-level code. Development on the LoCoBot is simplified with open source software, a configured ROS mapping & navigation modular stack, and an open source Python API that allows users to command the mobile base and manipulator in as few as 10 lines of code.

Supports

MoveIt Support

Abstract away motion planning, inverse kinematics, and collision checking by using MoveIt to manipulate the arm on your LoCoBot.

Supports

Robot Operating System

ROS support enables autonomous driving development, 3D SLAM mapping & navigation as well as easy integration with additional sensors.

High-Quality Simulation

Gazebo offers the ability to accurately and efficiently simulate populations of robots in complex indoor and outdoor environments.

VSLAM, Navigation & Obstacle Avoidance

Pre-configured ROS packages allow the robot to build a map of its surroundings, navigate through those explored maps, and autonomously avoid static and dynamic obstacles along its way. Using the RTAB-Map ROS package, the LoCoBot can generate a pointcloud representation of its operating environment.

iRobot Create® 3 Educational Robot

The iRobot Create® 3 provides a base for the LoCoBot that’s packed full of sensors. Running on ROS 2, the base exposes its internal interfaces, sensor output, and actuators through parameters, topics, services, and actions for easy integration into robotics projects.

Manipulators

There are 3 different robot arms that can be added to the LoCoBot platform, offering 4, 5, and 6 degree of freedom options.

Pan & Tilt 3D Camera (Optional LiDAR)

A stereo depth camera mounted to a controllable pan & tilt mechanism and an optional 2D LiDAR give the LoCoBot a 360° view of its surroundings for mapping, navigation, manipulation, and perception. The depth camera provides color images, depth images, pointclouds, and a live camera feed while the lidar produces laser scans or generated pointclouds.
