Trossen Robotics is thrilled to announce this open call. We're actively hiring Junior Mechanical Design Engineers and completely reinventing the interview process. Rather than relying on traditional resumes, we want to see your talent for ourselves. If you've ever thought about transitioning into robotics, this is your chance to secure an entry-level position based purely on your skills and creativity.

Design engineers, makers, and creative problem-solvers of all backgrounds—this challenge is open to anyone and everyone. You'll tackle real-world mechanical design problems similar to those we face daily in our labs. It's the perfect platform to showcase what you can do.

Why is Trossen skipping the resume?

As our founder Matt explains:

> "We're not interested in how good someone is at interviewing. We don't care much about someone's work history or educational background—I myself am an art school dropout. What truly matters to us is how individuals solve problems, navigate design constraints, and handle real-world mechanical challenges. THAT is what makes an outstanding engineer."

> "We're offering candidates a chance to bypass the traditional resume screening process. Successfully completing this challenge places you right at the front of our interview line. Your talent says more than any resume ever could."

An artist is born, not made. The burning passion and innate talent to create something truly new can't be taught. It isn't found solely in classrooms or textbooks, though these places can help hone your skills. Skills matter, of course, and every great artist should carry a diverse toolbox. But true artistry comes from the mind and hands you're born with. The lucky ones are those who recognize this gift and learn to wield it.

Artists exist in every field—painters, musicians, engineers, programmers, teachers, explorers, builders, and more. The only way to truly gauge the brilliance of an artist, and understand how their skills merge with their talent, is by witnessing them at work in their chosen craft. Right now, we're searching for mechanical design engineers whose instruments are their CAD tools, and whose masterpieces are robotic components.

Who should enter the Trossen Design Challenge?

If you've ever dreamed of working in robotics, this is your moment—regardless of your background. Whether you're formally trained or self-taught, deeply experienced or just beginning your journey, we encourage you to participate. We're looking for:

  • Innovators who've been creating incredible projects independently

  • Skilled engineers seeking more fulfilling roles

  • Passionate individuals eager to prove their potential
